EXAMPLES OF SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM BUSINESS GOALS FOR 2022!

Tis the season to focus on your goals. In the novel, The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, is forced to take a look at different parts of his life to determine the right path for his future in both his professional and personal life. If you have read this book or even seen the play or movie, you will notice that although he was already successful within his business, this came at the cost of his values and ethics of both himself and his employees. As we learned within the novel, his company (and he) would not continue to survive if he did not make the necessary changes.

Just like Ebenezer Scrooge was made to take a deeper look at his company, now is the time for you to look at your business’s past, present, and future goals. If you’re not sure where to start, take a look at my previous blog New Year New Business Goals for 2022. This will help you understand what you need to look for when reviewing your 2021 Business Plan and use this information to develop the best goals for your company in the new year.

How are you supposed to know what goals your business should have? To help, I have come up with a list of both short-term and long-term company goals for the 2022 business year.

SHORT TERM BUSINESS GOALS

  • Increase your Market Share. Sell more products or services to your target market. Take a look at last year’s figures, set a goal number and adjust your quarterly or yearly numbers to reflect the realistic increase you would like to see.
  • Increase your Community Outreach. Establishing your business as part of the community helps everyone! Your community gets the sponsorship or volunteer services needed and your business will have a positive brand representation that aligns with your core values.
  • Increase Leads to Customers. Establish tools or systems (like a CRM system) that can help organize your business’s onboarding process. Figure out what is the best way to turn your leads into sales and implement this into your onboarding to make a smooth process for new clients. The smoother the onboarding the easier the sales.
  • Focus on your team. Ensure your employees are properly trained and understand the goals of the company. Figure out if you need to hire additional employees to handle the increase in business. Finally, don’t forget to reward your employees, not just monetarily but with growth within your company.

LONG TERM BUSINESS GOALS

  • Review Your Mission Statement. Has this changed at all since you first started your company? Does this statement still fit your own values and goals? Has the field in which you provide products or services changed over time? It’s ok to adjust your mission statement to fit your new needs. In fact, some people recommend changing this every 3 years.
  • Infiltrate a Different Target Market. Did you have a successful year with your current target audience? How can you expand? For example, if your target audience is currently adult males, ages 40-65, can you market towards adult males ages 30-40 or seep this product or service into the adult female ages 40-65 target audience?
  • Market Through a New Channel. You have found success marketing in Facebook and Instagram. What about email marketing, podcasts, or even making Tik Toks? Have you created targeted ads through any channels or only used organic marketing? Think of any new ways to market your service or product and how this can develop new leads.
  • Set a Sales and Revenue Goal. You can make a new yearly monetary goal or you can suggest a percentage increase in sales and revenue you would like the business to hit each quarter. If you are unsure how to develop this goal, take a look at LeadSquared for ideas on how to develop your businesses sales goals using the S.M.A.R.T way.

These are just some examples of both short-term and long-term goals for your small business.
